Karma

One of my favorite TV shows is the new NBC comedy "My Name Is Earl" starring Jason Lee. For those of you who have seen it, bear with me as I explain it. On the show, Lee plays Earl, a professional low life who has consistently wronged people his whole life. One day he wins the lottery, but immediately is hit by a car that lands him in the hospital. While there, he learns about karma & being a good person, etc & how by doing good deeds, he would have good done for him in return. So he sets out on righting his past wrongs, etc etc...you get the idea.

Anyways, I was working my usual Sunday night basketball scoring shift at the Fieldhouse, when I noticed a team I had a problem with last week (It nearly came to a physical confrontation) was scheduled to be playing on the court I was supposed to be working on. Now when the other scorekeeper for the day showed up, I told him about the situation & that it would be best to switch courts & left it at that. Well no less then 5 minutes later, he came to me & said "Bad news John, I'm gonna make us stick to the courts we are assigned" without giving me a reason as to why he wanted it that way. Well, this absolutely infuriated me & my exact words to him were "Dude, why are you being a dick?" So I was hot at this point & resigned to working the court with the crappy team hoping nothing happened later on. I tried to calm down, but I was pissed. Pissed to the point where every time I saw the offending co-worker, I thanked him for being a good team player & clapped at him. I know juvenile, but I was pissed.

Now here comes the karma part. The court he was working on, that I wanted to be on, had technical issues. Namely the scoreboard wouldn't work. Now a little back story, earlier, I had tested the scoreboard & it worked fine for me. Less than 20 minutes later however, the same scoreboard wouldn't work for him, causing a delay that lasted all day. Now you wanna tell me, was that pure coincidence or was karma biting him in the ass? I'm gonna vote for karma because I did just fine on my court, I had no issues with any teams & my scoreboard worked fine all night. Yet he was a hardass, wouldn't do a co-worker a favor & he got fucked over in the end.

Just goes to show, you end up reaping what you sow.
