Fire Pro Wrestling Newsline, October 26, 2007
Greetings folks, it's Friday, October 26th & welcome to this weeks version of the official Fire Pro Wrestling newsline. "Lethal Lottery" has come & gone with lots of implications & drama taking place. This newsline will be dedicated to the events that took place at "Lethal Lottery" & what this means for upcoming Fire Pro Wrestling live events. So, lets get to the news:
*Cade Lee's use of an antiquated Fire Pro Wrestling Championship Commission by-law requiring a specific amount of singles victories to earn a title shot was certainly a cheap, under-handed, distasteful & blatant attempt at holding on to his title by any means necessary. For those interested in the by-law, it's 17.b & it states "No wrestler shall compete for any Fire Pro Wrestling singles championship without having successfully won 80% of their matches." Of course, "Diehard" Steve Szoke with having competed for so long in the tag team division with such great success has not amassed the necessary winning percentage to earn a title shot. That Lee chose now to invoke that by-law is clearly a tactic he employed to hang on to his title by the skin of his teeth. At "Lethal Lottery" though, Lee did agree to give Szoke a title shot in December if Szoke was able to win their match. Szoke did pull out the victory & will get his shot in December.
*It was good to see "Superstar" Chris Styles in the ring again. Despite his prolonged absence, Styles looked sharp, fit with no obvious signs of suffering from ring rust. It would be safe to say that Styles' comeback can be deemed a success & I'm hoping that it was not the last time we'll be seeing him in a Fire Pro ring.
*Styles was just one of a slew of new competitors making their debuts at "Lethal Lottery." In addition to Styles, Ash Sanchez & "The Master Technician" Jay Phoenix made their Fire Pro Wrestling debuts, albeit with very different results. Sanchez & Phoenix both took part in the $25,000 bounty challenge issued by Mr. Scott Powers. The challenge was designed to take out "Da Juggernaut" Osyris, but Osyris was able to get past Sanchez. Phoenix, however, was able to best the big man with the considerable help of Machine.
*Speaking of Machine, he vowed in the last newsline that he would get his revenge on Osyris & he made good on his word to do so. Machine felt I had wronged him & took his added aggression out on "Da Juggernaut." Afterwards, Machine warned, "See, that's what happens when you mess with me! Watch what you say or I'll tear out your spleen!" Needless to say, Osyris & Machine have certainly not crossed paths for the last time.
*The word out of the Lincoln County Regulators camp is that Tristin Hayze suffered a broken ankle during his "Lethal Lottery" strap match with Chase Richards. They are refusing to release the x-rays to confirm that diagnosis, so take that report with a grain of salt. Richards may have won the match, but Hayze may have won the battle as he managed to cut Richards hair off during the post-match antics. Mark my words; this war is far from over.
*The only title change to come out of "Lethal Lottery" saw "The Associate" Dave Allen capturing the 24/7 Hard Target Title in a sneak attack victory over former title-holder Christopher Kent. Kent had just competed in a "Lethal Lottery" match against "Hot Bod" Shawn Davis when Allen ran from outside the building & into the ring to roll him up for a quick pin. After the three-count, he was out the door once again. Allen now has to adhere to the stipulations that come with being the 24/7 Hard Target Champion that states the title can be challenged for anytime, anywhere & by anyone.
*Roach won a 10-man, over the top rope Battle Royal to earn a Fire Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Title shot in November at "Ground Zero." Roach eliminated Kenny Courageous to pick up the victory & will face Cade Lee on November 17th.
Now that "Lethal Lottery" is in the books & we look ahead to "Ground Zero" on November 17th, this is the perfect time to update the official Fire Pro Wrestling Rankings. Previous rankings are in parenthesis.
1. Cade Lee (1) - Managed to hang on to his title at "Lethal Lottery" by using the rulebook for the first time in his professional career. However, he looked best flat on his back having to take pictures with anyone who wanted to stand over him holding his title. I hope the next time he is flat on his back in the center of the ring it will be him losing his championship.
2. Chase Richards (2) - Won the match, kept the Fire Pro Wrestling Pride championship, but lost his hair when Tristin Hayze Pearl Harbored him after the match. History repeats itself more often than not, so Hayze best hope he has not awakened a sleeping giant.
3. Risk Factor (4) - Successfully defended their tag titles despite not knowing their opponents heading into the night. And for a little extra frosting on the cake, Roach now has a heavyweight title shot in November at "Ground Zero."
4. Steve Szoke (5) - His title opportunity turned into a non-title match, but Szoke kept his focus & defeated Lee to get a guaranteed title shot in December.
5. Tristin Hazye (6) - Came up just short in his bid for the Pride championship & may have suffered a broken ankle in the process. But Hayze scored a major coup by humiliating Richards with the shearing of his locks. Hayze will make sure to remind everyone of this fact for a long time to come.
6. Osyris (7) - "Da Juggernaut" had to face not one, not two, but three different opponents as part of the $25,000 bounty challenge laid down by Mr. Scott Powers. If it hadn't been for the involvement of Machine, you have to believe that Osyris would've gone three for three instead of suffering a beat-down at the hands of Jay Phoenix & Machine.
7. Christopher Kent (3) - It was one & done for Kent as the 24/7 Hard Target champion. He needs to respond to this setback with a big statement to rebound in the rankings.
8. Machine (9) - He got his revenge & showed just how dangerous he can truly be when he managed to take out Osyris at "Lethal Lottery." It will be interesting to see how Machine handles himself once he has to face "Da Juggernaut" one-on-one.
9. Gilbert Lewis (10) - Again, his physical appearance can be deceiving & he certainly doesn't look like the prototypical wrestler. But once inside the ropes, Lewis is as good as they come in Fire Pro. Do not underestimate his considerable skills.
10. Body Count (NR) - Daniel Allure & Santana Starks won a coin flip to face the Fire Pro Wrestling tag champs, Risk Factor, at "Lethal Lottery." Well, Body Count may have come up short in their bid for the gold, but they pushed Risk Factor to the limits & proved they belong in Fire Pro.
We return to action on November 17th as Fire Pro Wrestling presents "Ground Zero" at the Fire Pro Arena, located on the Impact Christian Church Campus, 401 W. 82nd Place, Merrillville, Indiana. Tickets are just $10 for adults & $6 for children. Doors open at 6 P.M. with bell time at 7 P.M.
"Lethal Lottery" was certainly a great night for Fire Pro & if you haven't seen us in action live yet, make your plans to do so. There are only two more live events left for 2007, so we hope you can join us before we welcome 2008. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me directly at firepro.doublej@gmail.com.
See you ringside,
