Fire Pro Wrestling Newsline, November 23, 2007
Greetings folks & welcome to the special post-Thanksgiving edition of the Official Fire Pro Wrestling Newsline. And a very good holiday to you all. Now that "Ground Zero" is behind us, we look toward to the end of what has been a great 2007. We have one more live event left for Fire Pro Wrestling, which will take place December 8th at the Fire Pro Arena. As has become customary, Fire Pro Wrestling will be teaming with Toys for Tots to provide a better holiday season to less fortunate children. With the holidays upon us, I think it's safe to say we can all agree that taking care of those less than fortunate people, especially children, is as noble a cause as could be undertaken.
Before we get to the news, updated rankings & talking about the end of the year, here are the quick results from "Ground Zero" from this past Saturday, November 17th:
-The Groucho Marks (Gilbert Lewis & "The Moustache Model" Carl Morris/Christopher Kent) def. The Rejects ("The Fallen Superstar" Chris Styles & "The Lose Soul" Ash Sanchez). During the contest, Morris was injured & Christopher Kent came out to replace him. More on Morris's condition later on.
-"The Associate" Dave Allen & Christopher Kent had there match thrown out Allen actually managed to get the victory with the help of a steel chair. But before he could celebrate his victory, the new Fire Pro Wrestling Director of Competition, "The Big Jack" John Burke, threw the match out because of Allen's antics stating, "the 24/7 Hard Target title is not a Hard Core title." Kent's knee was severely injured as a result, but he remained the Hard Target champion. More on Kent's condition later on.
-"The Mat Mechanic" Devon Fury defeated Hoss
-The Uprising ("Warfare" Jeremy Hadley & Luis Rojas) defeated Angus McDuff & The Crusader. After the match, Hadley declared The Uprising the number one contenders to the tag team championship currently held by Risk Factor. Hadley challenged Risk Factor member Jynx to an impromptu match.
-"Warfare" Jeremy Hadley & Jynx was ruled a no-contest when Luis Rojas got involved, bringing Jynx's partner Roach out. Risk Factor managed to chase The Uprising to the locker-room area as they stood victoriously in the ring.
-Team Omega ("Diehard" Steve Szoke & "Youngblood" Hayden Kent) defeated The "New" New Breed ("Handsome" Kenny Courageous & "Sexy" Shawn Cook). At the end of the match, Courageous attempted to use a steel chair on Kent, until former New Breed partner Devon Fury came out to stop him, thus allowing Kent to get the victory after nailing Cook with the pedigree.
After the previous tag team match, Christopher Kent, with his knee heavily bandaged, hobbled to the ring & challenged "The Associate" Dave Allen to a "re-match" right then & there. Allen subsequently accepted the challenge.
-"The Associate" Dave Allen defeated Christopher Kent to become the new 24/7 Hard Target champion. Afterwards, Allen demanded the mic & declared himself the greatest champion in Fire Pro & dared anyone to challenge him. And someone did…
-Gilbert Lewis defeated "The Associate" Dave Allen to become the new 24/7 Hard Target champion & relegating Allen to become the answer to the trivia question of which Fire Pro champion had the shortest tenure?
-Chase "The Face" Richards defeated "The Big Texan" Marc Houston to retain the Fire Pro Pride Championship.
-"The Professor of Old School" Cade Lee defeated Roach to retain the Fire Pro Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Lee tried to add insult to injury by attacked Roach post-match which brought "Diehard" Steve Szoke to the ring for the save.
With "Ground Zero" in the books, lets get to the news:
*The appointment of "The Big Jack" John Burke, a former Fire Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, as the Director of Competition for Fire Pro will certainly have a huge impact on the company. The dividends of his leadership have already paid off as evidenced in the announcements he made that night.
*At "Ground Zero" Burke announced that he had suspended "The Regulator" Tristin Hayze for 30 days due to his actions in October. At "Lethal Lottery" Hayze attacked Chase Richards after their match & cut his hair. Burke has immediately established that those kind of assaults will not be tolerated. There is definitely a new sheriff in town.
*Burke also made the announcement that in February, Fire Pro Wrestling will be welcoming the longest reigning WWF/E Intercontinental Champion in history when the Honky Tonk Man will make his Fire Pro debut.
*Burke's final announcement of the night was that Fire Pro has submitted the first episode of Fire Pro TV to the cable company & that the episode should begin airing soon. At this time, it will only be available in Indiana however.
*Updating Christopher Kent's condition…His knee was clearly damaged during his confrontation with "The Associate" Dave Allen & Allen's use of the steel chair. I contacted Kent via e-mail & he confirmed the original diagnosis, a sprained knee. Kent said, "I have a sprained knee, but I should be ready to go by "Defiant" in December." Kent finished his statement with, "Oh, and I'm ready to start leveling wrestlers in Fire Pro to prove I can stand on my own two legs." I think it's safe to say that Kent can back up that statement & I only hope he is healthy enough to do so. The worst-case scenario would be causing further damage to that knee.
*As for "The Moustache Model" Carl Morris…when I reached the mustached one via e-mail, he confirmed what was suspected at "Ground Zero" that he indeed suffered a stinger. Morris said, "I'm doing a lot better, still in pain but rest will do it good." Morris will have 'til December 8th to get some rest & I can assure that prior to competing, Morris will have to be examined by the Fire Pro medical staff & will need clearance to compete. We'll see how he recovers in the next few weeks.
Now, lets turn our attention to the Official Fire Pro Rankings. A lot happened at "Ground Zero" so lets see how the rankings may have changed. We have also split tag teams into a separate poll of their own. Previous rankings are in parenthesis:
1. Cade Lee (1) – "The Professor of Old School" remains on top after his impressive title defense over Roach. Can Lee close out '07 with the gold or will "Diehard" Steve Szoke make it a December to remember?
2. Chase Richards (2) – "The Face" turned back the challenge of newcomer Marc Houston, but I think Richards won't be satisfied until he gets a chance to exact some revenge on Tristin Hayze.
3. Gilbert Lewis (10) – Biggest move in the rankings thanks to his victory over Dave Allen to capture the 24/7 Hard Target title. This title has proved very difficult to hang on to for previous champions, so if Lewis can keep his clumsy hands on the gold, he'll become a fixture at the top of this list.
4. Steve Szoke (5) – The number one contender to the Heavyweight title gets his long-awaited shot at "Defiant" in December & as of now, he has to be the odds-on favorite to close out '07 as the Fire Pro champion.
5. Dave Allen (NR) – Ok, so perhaps "The Associate" had a less than memorable run as the 24/7 Hard Target champion. But factoring in his ruthless & brutal attack on Christopher Kent that showed how far he was willing to go for success denotes just how dangerous Allen can be. Can he parlay this into further success?
6. Devon Fury (NR) – Since splitting from long-time partner Kenny Courageous & making his own way in Fire Pro, the "Mat Mechanic" has looked very impressive; proving he has the skills to succeed without a tag team partner.
7. Christopher Kent (4) – Had it not been for Dave Allen's use of a chair, Kent might still be the 24/7 Hard Target champion & would be further up in the rankings. I have no doubt however that Kent will climb back up to the top once he gets a shot at gold again.
8. Tristin Hayze (6) – Hazye is in the midst of a thirty day suspension handed down by "The Big Jack" John Burke, so he was inactive at "Ground Zero." Once Hayze returns to action, he should expect a bulls-eye pointed squarely at his forehead courtesy of Chase "The Face" Richards.
9. Fuzion (8) – Fuzion was not in action at "Ground Zero" but that shouldn't diminish his skills or abilities. He has a very bright future ahead of him in Fire Pro.
10. Osyris (7) – "Da Juggernaut" returns to Fire Pro in December & will most certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
Fire Pro Tag Team rankings:
1. Risk Factor (Roach & Jynx) – We start with the champs & they are clearly the number one team right now. How long that lasts remains to be seen as they face some stiff competition from The Uprising.
2. The Uprising (Jeremy Hadley & Luis Rojas) – The number one contenders to the tag team championship get their opportunity in December. And if they manage to defeat Risk Factor, they will reign supreme over the tag team division.
3. Team Omega (Steve Szoke & Hayden Kent) – You have to wonder if Szoke becomes Heavyweight champion, what will happen to this duo? If they stay together, they will be the team to watch out for.
4. Angus McDuff & The Crusader – Having teamed together on multiple occasions now, this duo has looked impressive despite continuing to come up short in the win column. I think it's only a matter a time 'til that changes though.
5. The Groucho Marks (Carl Morris & Gilbert Lewis) – I'm not sure what the future holds for this team since Lewis has become a singles champion in Fire Pro & Morris suffered his injury. If they continue to team though, they could be the dark horse team to sweep the tag team division.
We return to action on December 8th as Fire Pro Wrestling presents "Defiant" at the Fire Pro Arena, located on the Impact Christian Church Campus, 401 W. 82nd Place, Merrillville, Indiana. Tickets are just $10 for adults & $6 for children. Doors open at 6 P.M. with bell time at 7 P.M.
However, as this is Fire Pro Wrestling's annual Toys for Tots show, anyone who brings a new, unopened toy to donate will only be charged $5 for admission. So bring a toy & donate it to a very worthy cause. This is an issue that is very near & dear to everyone at Fire Pro, so please help us help make the holidays memorable for the kids who need it the most.
This will be the last live event for 2007, so make your plans to join us & help celebrate a great 2007, while looking forward to 2008. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me directly at firepro.doublej@gmail.com.
See you ringside,
